Character’s Age at Time of Appearance through the Portal: 19

Character’s Appearance:

Edward is compact, 5’4” maybe 5’5” at a stretch, and built like a brick house, though you wouldn’t know it at a glance.  His right arm and left leg are mechanized steel prosthetics ported to permanent sockets attached to his thigh stump, and the remains of his shoulder.  The leg is out of adjustment and not working as well as it should, which often causes him to limp slightly. 

The bangs of Edward's light golden blonde hair are tapered around his face from around nose length to a couple of inches past his chin.  In back, the taper continues until it reaches about the bottom of his shoulder blades. Normally he wears it in a neat ponytail, or sometimes a low braid, with the front loose around his face. One strand (often referred to as his antenna) refuses to lie with the rest of his hair, stands straight up in the center. The unusual light brown of Edward’s eyes, have the look of clear molten gold.  They are very expressive, ranging from sharp with serious mischief to gentle and almost melancholic, and framed by dark lashes.  His face is heart shaped, set with a wide mouth and a strong nose.  He has good teeth, and a broad, sometimes cocky smile that shows off almost all of them.

Edward favors trousers and long sleeved shirts. He almost always dresses in layers.  He prefers mandarin collars on button down shirts, and will wear it with only the top button open.  He will usually add a dark vest over it. Sometimes he wears a tee shirt under a button down oxford, which he will wear untucked and unbuttoned.  He rarely wears short sleeved shirts alone and almost never unless he is among close friends.  He prefers trousers rather than jeans.  His dark trousers are usually poly-cotton blend heavy work pants.  His jeans are cut with a more relaxed fit so he can move more freely in the dense fabric.  He prefers black, but also has some blue jeans and khaki trousers.  Edward usually wears white gloves, and often wears a black duster even in summer.

Items the Military Specifically Confiscated from this Character: Mostly memories of his home.  He has huge holes in his memory now.  Specifically, he has no memory of his alchemical knowledge, nor an accurate memory of how he lost his limbs.  Edward didn’t have anything on him other than his automail that would specifically have been confiscated.  Thankfully his automail was not confiscated or Edward would be in deep doodoo.

What Universe This Character is From: Fullmetal Alchemist AnimeVerse including CoS Canon

General History:  When Edward was a child, his mother died, leaving him and his younger brother, Alphonse alone.  Devastated by their loss, the boys studied and attempted a forbidden alchemy to recreate their mother's body, and restore her to life.  Despite their incredible natural talent the transmutation failed horribly.  What was brought to life was in no way related to their mother.  The failure cost Edward his leg from mid-thigh down, and Alphonse lost his entire body. Only an act of desperation from Edward saved Alphonse.  Edward sacrificed his right arm in exchange for Alphonse’s soul, which he bound to a large suit of armor.

The boys journeyed for several years to find a way to reverse what they had done. At 12, Edward became the youngest State Certified Alchemist in the history of Amestris.  Eventually, the boys were separated.  Edward sacrificed himself for Alphonse and wound up on the reverse side of the gate, post WWI London, and later in Munich.  Alphonse, restored to his original body was left behind in Amestris, with no memory of his journey with his brother.  It was two years before Edward knew that his brother was alive.  They were reunited, Alphonse’s memory restored, but both were now trapped on the reverse side of the Gate. The boys spent another year journeying and studying, before they made another attempt to cross the gate and go home, but they ended up separated again.

Edward, now 19, was thrown through the so-called 'Gates of Dawn', and ended up in Oaklyn.  He has no memory of his real past now.  He believes that he lost his limbs in some kind of accident, but he doesn't remember the details.  He thinks the memories are repressed because of the trauma.  He also believes he is from London, and that is where he thinks Alphonse is.  He believes that he left home to attend the 'Free College' in Oaklyn, which he believed was an interesting experiment he wanted to be a part of.

Anything else you think the other players need to know?   Edward suffers from insomnia at times, complicated by terrible nightmares he doesn't understand.  He can be really tormented by them and also generally bizarre dreams that don't necessarily fall into the nightmare category, but which are disturbing just the same.  Edward is on a medication that is supposed to help him stay calm and steady. Withdrawal symptoms from the drug reinforce his belief that he needs it.  He doesn't remember his dreams as much when he is on the drug, and is generally less volatile...even fairly mellow most of the time now. He is absent-minded though, and his friends sometimes have to remind him of his meds, for which he is grateful. 

Edward does not like being questioned about his injuries.  It makes him uncomfortable since he can’t really explain what happened. He also strongly dislikes asking for help, or admitting limitations.  He hates being treated like an invalid, or really any different from anyone else.  His prosthetics, while advanced, are not without problems.  Damp weather makes his joints ache.  He can get infections around the sockets. He has sometimes severe pain, migraines and sometimes inexplicable fevers.  He doesn't like taking pain meds... (Actually he dislikes taking any meds, but he thinks the other one is absolutely needed) and will resort to aspirin rather than his stronger meds whenever he thinks he can bear it.  He prefers aspirin powder when he can get it, and when he can't, he will chew the tablets much to the chagrin of anyone watching him do it.
